The commission aims at the creation of a new internal tourism and leisure oriented settlement on the Persian Gulf Coast, north of the Arabian Peninsula and around the archaeological remains of the old town and commercial port of Al-Uqair.
The new development promoted by the Ministry of Tourism (SCTA) and the finance ministry is linked to the biggest oasis in the country and about 40km to the city of Al-Hasa. The Master Plan is more detailed for the first three phases for initial 10 years and two more stages for the following 10 years to complete 30.000 new units. First phase encompasses the creation of 6000 new units on 2500 hectares, from which 1200 are hotels and approximately 4800 residential.
